Cal/OSHA

The Division of Occupational Safety and Health, better known as Cal/OSHA, protects workers and the public from safety hazards through its Cal/OSHA, elevator, amusement ride, aerial tramway, ski lift and pressure vessel programs, and provides consultative assistance to employers.

The Cal/OSHA Program is responsible for enforcing California laws and regulations pertaining to workplace safety and health and for providing assistance to employers and workers about workplace safety and health issues.

The Cal/OSHA Consultation Service provides assistance to employers and workers about workplace safety and health issues through on-site assistance, high hazard consultation and special emphasis programs, and develops educational materials on workplace safety and health topics.

Provides workplace safety and health assistance to employers and workers through on-site assistance and special emphasis programs, and publishes a wide variety of educational materials on workplace safety and health topics.

Consultative assistance is provided to employers through on-site visits, telephone support, publications and educational outreach. All services provided by Cal/OSHA Consultation are provided free of charge to California employers.

California has developed several programs that rely on industry, labor, and government to work as partners in encouraging and recognizing workplace safety and health programs that effectively prevent and control injuries and illnesses to workers. These partnership programs include the Voluntary Protection Program, Golden State, SHARP, Golden Gate, and special alliances formed between industry, labor, and OSHA.

The Cal/OSHA enforcement unit has jurisdiction over every employment and place of employment in California which is necessary to adequately enforce and administer all occupational safety and health standards and regulations.

The Cal/OSHA Enforcement Unit conducts inspections of California workplaces based on worker complaints, accident reports and high hazard industries. There are 22 Cal/OSHA Enforcement Unit district offices located throughout the state of California. Specialized enforcement units include:

·         Asbestos Consultant and Site Surveillance Technician Unit

·         Asbestos Trainers Approval Unit

·         Crane Certifier Accreditation Unit

·         High Hazard Compliance Unit

·         Mining and Tunneling Unit
